Effective May 4, 2020 applications for the Pipefitter Apprenticeship Program will be available online every day. Paper applications are not available at this time.
To complete the online application you will need the following documents. Incomplete applications or applications that are submitted without all of the following documents will be rejected.
Reliable proof of age; such as a copy of your birth certificate, driver’s license or state-issued ID
Your high school diploma and
Your transcripts from the last high school you attended
If a veteran, a copy of your DD214
Diplomas must be obtained from high schools with regional accreditation. Diplomas from high schools with national accreditation will not be accepted. Diplomas purchased after a single exam online are not accepted.
If you have a GED, you must still provide a copy of your transcript from the last high school you attended, a copy of your GED certificate AND your test scores.
If you were home-schooled, at a minimum, provide proof of graduation as well as a transcript documenting courses completed and grades received on such courses.
If you have not yet graduated from high school, you must be at least 18 years old to apply. Request a seven semester transcript and a letter on school letterhead from the high school indicating that you are on track to graduate and the day on which you will graduate, in addition to a copy of your birth certificate. After graduation, you must provide us a copy of your diploma.
To obtain your high school transcript, contact the high school where you attended and request them from the main office. We must have these in addition to a copy of your diploma to document your graduation date, and you must provide them even if you have a GED and/or graduated from college.
If you do not have your diploma, contact the high school and request that they write a letter on school letterhead that contains your legal name, the date of your graduation, and the signature of a school official.
Step 1: Click here to request an application. Within 2 business days you will be emailed a link to the online application.
Step 2: Complete the online application and upload the required documents that are listed above. If you are using a mobile device, scan your documents prior to uploading. Suggested apps: PhotoScan, Notes (Apple) or Genius Scan (Android). Documents must be legible, clear and print full size on 8.5x11" paper, with the exception of a drivers license image. Tip: When scanning a document, lay it flat on a solid colored background. Do not hold it in your hands or scan at an angle. Remember, you need clear, sharp images.
Step 3: Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified if it is Provisionally Accepted or Rejected.
If your application was Provisionally Accepted: you will be emailed and sent a link to review the Standards of Apprenticeship and complete a form acknowledging that you were given the opportunity to review the Standards. You will then proceed to Step 4.
If your application was Rejected: you will be emailed with the reason(s) why and you may repeat Step 2 if you wish to continue the application process. The most common reasons applications are rejected are 1) documents are too small/not legible 2) not uploading all required documents. Yes, we must have your high school transcripts AND diploma.
Step 4: After the Training Center is notified that you reviewed the Standards of Apprenticeship your application will be marked FINAL. Your application will be placed in a pool of eligible candidates and valid for 1 year.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
When we accept your completed application with all of the required documents, we will email you an Eligibility Letter/Letter of Introduction along with a list of contractors who are eligible to hire apprentices.
Contact each of the contractors on the list and send the Eligibility Letter along with your résumé and anything else you might find beneficial to a prospective employer. The Eligibility Letter informs the contractors that you have an application on file and are eligible to be hired.
If you are selected by a contractor, they will contact you and set you up for one or more interviews. Then the contractor will contact you to pick up an “Intent to Hire” letter from their office. When you receive the “Intent to Hire” letter you must discontinue interviewing with other contractors.
The contractor will instruct you to bring the Intent to Hire document to the Training Center at an appointed date and time. You must have an appointment before coming to the Training Center. At that time you will complete beneficiary paperwork and will need social security numbers, birthdates and addresses of anyone you will list as a beneficiary (such as spouse, children, parents, siblings).
The Training Center will direct you through the remainder of the process.
NOTE: Submitting an application to the Pipefitter Apprenticeship program does not mean you are “in” the Union; it means you are applying for the Apprenticeship Program.
If you are not hired right away and wish to continue the application process, on or after the first business Monday of each month, request a new Contractor list by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your name in the body of the email. Upon verification you will be emailed the current list.
Effective June 1, 2015: An application shall remain active for one (1) year from the date it has been submitted. If an applicant desires to have their application remain active beyond this one (1) year period, then the applicant is required to notify the Program of such desire in writing. Such written notice shall be made no earlier than sixty (60) days prior to the one (1) year anniversary date of original application, and no later than the one (1) year anniversary date of submission. Those applicants who notify the Program in writing shall have their applications remain active. Those applicants who fail to provide such written notice shall be deemed inactive. An application may be renewed for a total of five (5) years, after such time the applicant will be required to complete a new application.
Non Discrimination The recruitment, selection, employment, and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship, shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex. The Pipe Fitters Local 533 Educational Training Fund will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, part 30.
